INSPIRATION:
Before I ever really considered doing flash programming professionally, I only tinkered with coding. I was always interested in programing something I've never seen done before. Or if I have seen it done, something I've never seen done in flash. The basic concept behind the sites 3D interface was to have it look like a standard flash site, but to be able to shift the perspective and "fly" around. I frequent the FWA.com smashingmagazine.com and Notcot.org for inspiration. Sometimes its good to look outside of web design for inspiration, I look at industrial design, fashion and even culinary arts.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE:
At first I discovered flash wouldn't allow for the entire site to be in 3D since the converted graphics were too large. This only allowed for small elements to be in 3D. After more experimenting I figured out a work around and managed to break free of the flash limitations for 3D.
EXPERIENCE GAINED:
When I started the project, I was just being introduced to Actionscript 3. I forced myself to learn it over a weekend, the next Monday I started work on the site. Behind the scenes is back-end gallery admin panel. One of the early requirements was to be able to update the gallery with no need to recompile the site or write any new code. I had to learn PHP in a very short time frame, which was something I never really needed to learn till that moment.
FUTURE PROJECTS:
No major projects in the pipeline, but this new free time I found myself working on a Text Adventure Engine for flash. Not sure how will it will work, but its getting me use to Object Oriented Programing.
